Heineken 0.0 Review – Alcohol-Free Lager

Review Approach

This is my second alcohol-free beer review, following Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0. I plan to continue evaluating non-alcoholic beers both in comparison to their alcoholic counterparts and as stand-alone drinks.

For this review, I will:

1. Assess Heineken 0.0 on its own.
2. Compare it to Heineken Original.
3. Provide an overall rating.

It’s worth noting that Heineken does not claim the 0.0 version tastes identical to its alcoholic counterpart. However, I find this comparison useful as a baseline.

Tasting Notes

Aroma

Upon opening the bottle, I noticed a subtle malt aroma. It was pleasant and not overpowering, with a slight sweetness.

Appearance

When poured, Heineken 0.0 displayed a vibrant golden hue with a decent level of fizz. It initially formed a small head, which dissipated quickly—similar to what I observed with Heineken Original.

Taste

I was pleasantly surprised by the flavour. Heineken 0.0 has a well-balanced malt and fruit character, providing some depth. There was a mild aftertaste, but nothing too noticeable or unpleasant.

Comparison to Heineken Original

To put Heineken 0.0 to the test, I opened a bottle of Heineken Original. The aroma was indistinguishable between the two.

In terms of appearance, both had the same golden colour and level of carbonation, with the head dissipating quickly.

Taste-wise, Heineken 0.0 closely resembles the original, but with a milder profile. The main difference was the slight “bite” present in the Original, which comes from the alcohol.

Verdict

Heineken 0.0 is a solid alcohol-free beer. It’s refreshing, has a decent depth of flavour, and is an easy drinker—something I could see myself having at a bar for an entire evening.

However, like Heineken Original, it’s not the most exciting beer. There are likely more adventurous alcohol-free options out there, but you can’t go wrong with this one if you’re looking for a reliable and widely available alcohol-free lager.
