Impossibrew Lager Review: Can This Buzz Beer Really Replace Alcohol?
Manufacturer Description
“IMPOSSIBREW® is an impossibly relaxing non-alcoholic beer designed to replace alcohol. For a healthier daily wind down by recreating the closest possible experience – from look, taste to how it makes you feel.” – Impossibrew
About the Brand
Impossibrew was founded by wine expert Mark Wong, who moved to the UK at a young age. Like many adapting to British culture, he found that drinking played a big role in social connection. Unfortunately, after a health scare at age 22, Mark was told his liver was showing signs of serious damage — and that he had to stop drinking alcohol entirely.
Determined to find an alternative, Mark consulted a traditional Asian herbalist in Hong Kong and began exploring plant-based relaxation methods. Teaming up with Dr. Chazot from Durham University, he developed Social Blend™ — a proprietary mix of science-backed ingredients designed to recreate the relaxing sensation of alcohol without the downsides.
Though rejected on Dragons’ Den in 2022, Impossibrew has since grown rapidly, now offering an alcohol-free Lager and an IPA. I was excited to finally try the Lager and see what the buzz was about.

The Review
I rated Impossibrew Lager based on three key factors: Aroma, Appearance, and Drinkability.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
There’s a gentle citrus note on the nose — subtle and pleasant without being overpowering.
Appearance
It pours beautifully with a foamy head and a rich golden color. There’s a good level of fizz that gives it a lively feel in the glass.
Taste
The initial taste is light, citrusy, and refreshing. However, I did find it slightly watery. That said, the carbonation gave it a nice mouthfeel, and there was no unpleasant aftertaste.
Verdict
When I first started researching alcohol-free beers, Impossibrew stood out because of its promise of a “buzz” without booze. Naturally, I was eager to try it.
The beer itself is genuinely enjoyable — easy to drink, crisp, and refreshing. The slight wateriness is worth noting, but it’s far from a deal-breaker. As for the buzz? I didn’t really feel it on this first try. It could be that one can isn’t enough to notice the effects, or the feeling is so subtle it slipped past me. Either way, I plan to revisit it and try the IPA next.
