Lucky Saint Unfiltered Lager Review: A Top-Tier Alcohol-Free Beer

Manufacturer Description

“Brewed with centuries-old techniques to create a truly modern lager, our beer is left unfiltered for maximum flavour without the alcohol” – Lucky Saint

About Lucky Saint

Lucky Saint is the brainchild of Luke Boase, who set out with one simple mission: to create a truly great-tasting alcohol-free beer.

After years of trial and error with breweries across Europe, Luke found a like-minded partner in Bavaria. Together, they developed what would become Lucky Saint Lager—an unfiltered, full-flavoured lager brewed with traditional techniques and modern innovation.

Brewed for six weeks and left unfiltered to preserve flavour, the final step gently removes alcohol, leaving a 0.5% ABV. While UK law classifies alcohol-free beer as having 0.05% or less ABV, EU rules allow up to 0.5%, making German production the perfect fit.

Lucky Saint officially launched in the UK in October 2018. By January 2020, it was available on draught, and by 2024, it had made its way into over 1,000 pubs nationwide. Most recently, they opened their own pub—The Lucky Saint—in Marylebone, London.

The Premise of the Review

For this review, I rated Lucky Saint on three key factors:

  • Aroma
  • Appearance
  • Drinkability

Tasting Notes

Aroma

Like most lagers, it doesn’t have an overpowering aroma. But there’s a gentle, pleasant blend of malty sweetness and subtle fruit notes that invites you in.

Appearance

It pours beautifully with a golden amber hue, forming a nice head and a lively fizz. Visually, it looks just like a premium lager should.

Taste

Crisp, dry, and satisfyingly fizzy. It offers a well-rounded malt backbone with just the right amount of bitterness. No off-flavours, no weird aftertaste—just clean, refreshing beer. The more I drank, the more I enjoyed it.

Verdict

I had high expectations going in, and Lucky Saint delivered. It’s easily one of the best non-alcoholic lagers I’ve tried. Smooth, flavourful, and incredibly drinkable—this is a beer I’ll be reaching for again.

I’m especially looking forward to trying it on tap and visiting The Lucky Saint Pub soon.

In Summary

A delicious, alcohol-free lager that’s nearly impossible to fault. Highly recommended.
