Review: Asahi Superdry 0.0 – A Crisp Take on Alcohol-Free Lager
Manufacturer Description
Born in Tokyo in 1987, Asahi Super Dry redefined the beer category and introduced the world to a new “super dry” taste in beer.
Today, our Master Brewers have combined pioneering Japanese brewing techniques with the finest ingredients to brew a beer that has the same crisp and refreshing Asahi Super Dry taste, without the alcohol.
The Beer
Launched in 2023 as an alcohol-free alternative to the original Asahi Super Dry, aiming to replicate the “super dry” taste with zero alcohol, using a de-alcoholization process on the original beer’s base recipe.
The Premise of the Review
When I first started exploring alcohol-free beers, I compared them directly with their alcoholic counterparts. But now, I feel confident enough to judge them on their own merits.
For this review, I’m scoring Asahi Super Dry 0.0% based on three key attributes:
- Aroma
- Appearance
- Drinkability

Tasting Notes
Aroma
The aroma is extremely subtle almost non-existent. Then again, that’s pretty typical of most lagers.
Appearance
A slight head formed on pouring, though the beer did seem a little flat. That said, it has a lovely amber colour that looks inviting.
Taste
There’s a mild bitterness here that lacks some depth, but overall, it’s smooth and pleasant. Despite appearing a bit flat initially, the mouthfeel is actually quite satisfying slightly syrupy, with a gentle bitter aftertaste.
The Verdict
Asahi Super Dry 0.0% is a solid alcohol-free lager. While it doesn’t blow me away with complexity, it delivers a clean, easy-drinking experience that’s refreshing and enjoyable.
Would I seek it out? Maybe not. But if it’s on offer or in the fridge on a hot summer day, I wouldn’t hesitate to reach for one.
Scoring:
Aroma 3
Taste 3.5
Drinkability 3.5
Overall Score: 3.3/5
