Snorkeler’s Sea Salt IPA Review – Insel-Brauerei’s Alcohol-Free Baltic Brew
There are some beers that grab your attention straight away — and Snorkeler’s Sea Salt IPA is definitely one of them. From the textured paper-wrapped bottle to the unusual sea salt twist, this alcohol-free IPA from Insel-Brauerei immediately stands out.
But does it deliver in the glass? Let’s dive in
Manufacturer Description
“The Snorkeler’s Sea Salt IPA lets you dive into a variety of flavours. It sparkles amber in the glass and smells wonderfully citrus aromatic. The palate is surprised by a slightly mineral note and yet it shows its stylish hop power, paired with a finely integrated pinch of salt. Typically Baltic refreshing.” – Insel-Brauerei
About Insel-Brauerei
Insel-Brauerei is a distinctive German craft brewery based on the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea. Founded in 2015 by Markus Berberich, the brewery has built a strong reputation for bottle-conditioned beers, unfiltered brewing techniques, and its eye-catching textured paper bottle wraps that give the range a premium, artisanal feel.
The brewery produces a mix of classic European-inspired styles and modern craft interpretations, including saisons, stouts and strong ales, often using specialty malts and extended maturation to create complex, layered flavours.
Their focus on quality, natural ingredients, and careful conditioning has helped them stand out both in Germany and internationally among craft beer enthusiasts.
Tasting Review: Aroma, Appearance & Drinkability
Aroma
A fresh, full-bodied aroma greets you as soon as you open the bottle. There’s a noticeable citrus character, backed by a subtle mineral edge that hints at the sea salt addition.
Appearance
It pours a lively amber-gold with a healthy head that settles nicely. The carbonation gives it an energetic, inviting look in the glass.
Taste & Mouthfeel
A nice rich hoppy taste starts off with a fruity sweetness, but then the sea salt kicks in to balance it beautifully
The lively carbonation works beautifully with the flavour profile, giving it an intense yet refreshing mouthfeel. It feels substantial for an alcohol-free IPA, which is always a win.

Verdict
I must admit, I hadn’t heard of Insel-Brauerei before this. What first caught my eye was the distinctive paper-wrapped bottle, and then the idea of an IPA brewed with sea salt sealed the deal.
I have to say I loved it.
From the presentation to the balance of flavours and that lively, intense mouthfeel, everything works. It’s refreshing, interesting, and genuinely different from most alcohol-free IPAs on the market.
I’ve also spotted another AF beer in their range, Surfer’s Summer Ale, which I’m definitely keen to try next.
