Below Brew Co., formerly known as Lowtide Beer, is a UK-based craft brewery founded by Rob and Dave two friends determined to create low-alcohol beers that taste just as good as their full-strength counterparts. Introducing NEIPA “The Cosmic Turtle”

Launched in 2021, NEIPA “The Cosmic Turtle” is an alcohol-free New England IPA with just 0.5% ABV. Don’t let the low alcohol fool you this brew packs a punch in the flavour department. Loaded with a blend of Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo and El Dorado hops, it aims to recreate the juicy, hazy magic of a classic NEIPA while staying completely sessionable.

My Review: First Sip Impressions 

Aroma

This beer opens with a lovely malty, citrus-forward aroma. Notes of tropical fruit linger just beneath the surface, offering a promising introduction.

Appearance

The pour is impressive a lively head forms quickly and sticks around, crowning a hazy golden-yellow body that’s strongly reminiscent of pineapple juice. It looks like a proper NEIPA.

Taste & Mouthfeel

The first sip delivers a pleasing malt backbone with distinct tropical fruit flavours think mango, pineapple, and a touch of guava. It’s light and refreshing, and the subtle carbonation provides just enough fizz to give a smooth and satisfying mouthfeel.

Compared to some of its AF peers, the beer is flavourful and easy-drinking. That said, after recently reviewing BrewDog’s Hazy AF, I did find The Cosmic Turtle slightly less complex verging on watery towards the finish. Still, for a 0.5% ABV brew, it punches above its weight.

Verdict

Having previously enjoyed Below Brew Co’s Brune DMC, I had high hopes for The Cosmic Turtle and it didn’t disappoint. This beer is fruity, refreshing, and great to look at. The branding and artwork are fun and distinctive, too, helping it stand out on the shelf.

While I might wish for a bit more depth in the flavour profile, The Cosmic Turtle is still a solid option for anyone craving a juicy alcohol-free IPA. Whether you’re cutting back or skipping alcohol altogether, this brew makes a great addition to your rotation.
