Jump Ship Stoker’s Stout Review – A Rich & Creamy Alcohol-Free Oatmeal Stout

Manufacturer Description

“Every Stoker needs a secret stash of stout to slake their thirst. Ours is rich and creamy so you can stoke your engine with flavour not booze..” – JumpShip Beer

About the Brand

Founded in 2019, Jump Ship Brewing Co. is an Edinburgh-based brewery dedicated entirely to alcohol-free craft beer. Their mission is simple: create beers with all the flavour and character of full-strength brews, just without the alcohol.

Their debut release, Yardarm Lager, took nearly a year to perfect and the effort paid off, winning World’s Best Non-Alcoholic Lager at the World Beer Awards 2021. Since then, the brewery has expanded its range to include several core styles available year-round, alongside limited seasonal releases.

Jump Ship uses controlled (or arrested) fermentation, a brewing method that carefully stops fermentation before significant alcohol develops helping preserve body and flavour. They also brew in Scotland’s first dedicated alcohol-free brewery, reinforcing their focus on the low-alcohol and no-alcohol category.

Introducing Stoker Stout

Jump Ship Stoker’s Stout is an alcohol-free oatmeal stout brewed to deliver the experience of a traditional stout at ≤0.5% ABV.

Using roasted malts and oats, it’s designed to create a smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel while showcasing classic stout characteristics coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted bitterness in a low-alcohol format.

It’s part of Jump Ship’s core alcohol-free range and has also picked up recognition on the awards circuit, including Best No-Alcohol Beer in Scotland 2024.

The Review

I rated Stoker’s based on three key factors: Aroma, Appearance, and Drinkability.

Tasting Notes

Aroma

Nice malty, slightly biscuity aroma, with a hint of bitterness on the nose, subtle but pleasant

Appearance

Pours a deep brown, almost black, with a creamy look you’d expect from a stout. However, head retention was limited, with only a few bubbles forming, leaving it looking slightly lifeless in the glass.

Taste

Nice depth to the beer you can really taste the roasted malts, with a nice undertone of chocolate and biscuit. There’s a pleasant bitterness that lingers nicely on the finish.

The creamy texture combined with the rich roasted profile gives the beer a really satisfying mouthfeel.

Verdict

In the past I’ve reviewed a couple of the beers from Jump Ship (Yard Arm Lager, Jump Ship) and have never been disappointed.

Given their track record for award-winning alcohol-free beer, I had high expectations going into Stoker’s Stout and I wasn’t disappointed.

This is another strong addition to their core range. It’s flavourful, smooth, and genuinely stout-like the kind of AF beer that makes you want to crack open another straight away.

If you’re a stout fan exploring alcohol-free options, this is definitely one worth trying.

Personally, I’m already looking forward to the next Jump Ship brew I get hold of.
