Alcohol-Free, Full-Flavour: Wild Juice Chase by Below Brew Co
“Talus and Citra hops pair harmoniously with mango and passionfruit to create an exceptional, soft and pillowy Juicy DDH Pale Ale” – Below Brew Co
Below Brew Co (formerly Lowtide Brewing) has become one of the standout names in the U.K.’s no-alcohol and low-alcohol craft beer scene. Founded on the belief that alcohol-free beer shouldn’t be boring, they’ve built a reputation for bold flavour, inventive recipes, and brilliantly quirky can art. If you’ve tried any of their beers, you’ll know they don’t do “minimal effort” brewing.
One of the stars of their range is Wild Juice Chase, a juicy, tropical, double-dry-hopped (DDH) pale ale that absolutely overperforms for a 0.5% beer. With Talus and Citra hops layered over mango and passionfruit, this brew aims squarely at those who want craft character without the alcohol.
And based on my glass… it hits the mark.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
A bright hit of citrusy hops leads the way, backed by subtle stone fruit and tropical notes. There’s a light sweetness in the background from the mango and passionfruit, but nothing syrupy just clean, refreshing fruit aroma with a modern craft pale edge.
Appearance
Wild Juice Chase pours a hazy golden yellow with a lively sparkle. A foamy white head rises nicely on the pour, though it doesn’t stick around for long. In the glass it looks soft, juicy and summery exactly what you’d expect from a “juicy DDH” pale.
Taste & Mouthfeel
The first sip delivers a lovely mix of hoppy bitterness and malty depth. Talus brings a gentle herbal-grapefruit character, while Citra adds that unmistakable bright citrus kick. The mango and passionfruit come through mid-sip, adding a rounded, soft sweetness without ever taking over.
The body is impressive for 0.5% smooth, pillowy, and almost creamy thanks to the oats. Carbonation is crisp but not sharp, giving it a refreshing lift and helping those tropical flavours pop.
Overall, the flavour feels well-layered and genuinely complex, especially for an AF pale ale.

What Does DDH (Double-Dry-Hopped) Mean?
Double-dry-hopping simply means the beer is dry-hopped twice during fermentation adding hops late in the process rather than boiling them early.
Why does that matter?
- It boosts aroma without increasing bitterness
- It creates juicy, expressive hop character
- It adds layers of flavour, especially citrus, floral and tropical notes
- It’s a staple technique in modern craft pale ales and IPAs
Using DDH in an alcohol-free beer is especially clever because it compensates for the naturally lighter body by adding intensity, making the beer taste much more “full-strength” than it is.
Final Verdict
I’ve reviewed a few Below Brew beers like Brune DMC and The Cosmic Turtle and they’ve consistently shown how creative alcohol-free brewing can be. Wild Juice Chase continues that trend and might even be one of my favourites so far.
It’s refreshing, full of character, and genuinely complex for a 0.5% pale ale. The DDH approach clearly pays off, giving the beer a depth and vibrancy you don’t always find in AF styles.
And yes… the can art once again brings that signature Below Brew fun factor.
A fantastic choice for tropical pale ale fans alcohol-free or not.
